I never wanted to get married, in fact, I was dead set against it. But now, over thirty years later, the best decision I ever made was trusting Brit and marrying him. My marriage gets better every year. I am so grateful to God.
The husband should give to his wife her conjugal rights, and likewise the wife to her husband. For the wife does not have authority over her own body, but the husband does. Likewise the husband does not have authority over his own body, but the wife does. 1 Corinthians 7:3-4 ESV
These controversial verses in the Holy Bible drive people nuts. Current sensibilities say: NO, a husband DOES NOT have authority over his wife’s body. Really? Why not? And why is it we never concentrate on the second part? “A husband does not have authority over his own body, but the wife does.” This is about covenant, this is about becoming one. This is the essence of the golden rule. This is about self-control, a fruit of the Spirit. This is true respect.
This later verse describes exactly what happened in my marriage.
For how do you know, wife, whether you will save your husband? Or how do you know, husband, whether you will save your wife? 1 Corinthians 7:16 ESV
Brit and I saved each other.
This is exactly the way Dwayne and I feel about our marriage of 30 years. We feel so blessed to have found each other, and I know that you and Brit do also. I admire you both so very much, and I love reading all that you share. Blessings to both of you! - Julie Sharp
