As they say in Alcoholics Anonymous, "Let Go and Let God."
44 years ago this week, when I stopped drinking and let God inhabit my heart, I didn’t care what happened. I just couldn't go on anymore. I had made a million promises to myself, and I couldn’t keep one. Since then, because I hold fast to him in love, God has kept all his promises to me, including those in this Psalm.
God:
“Because he holds fast to me in love, I will deliver him;
I will protect him, because he knows my name.
When he calls to me, I will answer him;
I will be with him in trouble;
I will rescue him and honor him.
With long life I will satisfy him
and show him my salvation.”
He rescued me, and he has granted me long life to tell the story of my promised salvation.
